The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Childcare in Public Space (CCIPS) Program supports childcare facilities located in;

• government buildings,
• school buildings, and
• aging modular buildings,

located on;

• County properties,
• school properties, and
• parks.

These facilities allow childcare providers in various parts of the County to provide affordable, quality, and safe childcare services to residents with young children. Each facility provides space for program function including administrative staff, classrooms, associated support functions, and playgrounds for children ages 0-12. This program provides for renovation or replacement of CCIPS childcare facilities to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and safety concerns.

The program is subdivided into three major categories:

1. Remediation of ADA non-compliant features at childcare centers located in County buildings at: Clara Barton Community Center, Colesville Health Center, Lawton Community Center, Lone Oak Park, Potomac Community Center, Shady Grove Metro, and Upcounty Regional Services Center.
2. Replacement of modular facilities at: Brooke Grove Elementary School, Judith Resnik Elementary School, Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park, West Diamond Avenue, Shady Grove Life Sciences, Stone Mill Elementary School, Waring Station Road, and Woodlin Elementary School.
3. Design and construction of ADA-compliant playgrounds at the aforementioned buildings and modular facilities along with the following existing childcare centers; Bethesda Regional Services Center, Damascus Senior Center, Galway Elementary School, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, Viers Mill Elementary School, and Weller Road Elementary School.
