Summer Driving Tips

In 2010, the American Automobile Association (AAA) estimates that it will rescue roughly 9.3 million stranded motorists during the summer driving season. According to AAA Automotive Vice President Marshall L. Doney, Many of the problems that end up with the vehicle on the back of a tow truck could have been prevented with regular maintenance.

Before you pack up the car and hit the road, here are some tips to keep you safe when traveling this summer.

Keep An Eye On Your Fluids:

P Check your oil. If your oil is dirty or low, take your vehicle to a service station and have the oil changed.

P Fill up your windshield washer fluid.

P Make sure that you have a sufficient amount of antifreeze.

Windshield Washer Blades:

P Test your windshield washer blades. If your blades are cracked or are leaving streaks on your windshield, replace them. The last thing that you want is to be stuck in a storm and not be able to see!

Tend To Your Tires:

P Check your tire pressure and check it often. The average tire will lose approximately a pound of pressure each month. Properly inflated tires will improve your fuel mileage and will ensure that your tires have the best contact with the road.

Prepare An Emergency Kit:

Carry the following items in a secure part of your trunk or cargo area to ensure preparedness in case of an emergency.

P Flashlight, flares and a first aid kit

P Paper towels

P Jumper cables

P Extra washer fluid

P Basic tools (wrenches, ratchet/socket set, screwdrivers, pliers and gloves)

P Jug of water
