Awards
The Medal of Valor is the Department’s highest award for heroism and distinction in extremely hazardous circumstances. To be considered, a team member must display unusual bravery in performing their duty while facing the threat of death or serious injury.
The Life Saving Award will be awarded to a team member who makes a major contribution toward saving the life of another by providing essential medical treatment before the arrival of EMS personnel.
A Commendation will be awarded to the team member who significantly contributes to the department's mission beyond the ordinary call of duty. It shall recognize those incidents wherein the member’s courage, resourcefulness, tenacity, and perseverance in performing the team member’s duties have resulted in the protection of life or property, the prevention of a major crime, or the apprehension of an armed and dangerous criminal.
The Chief’s Award will be awarded quarterly by the Chief of Police to team members who exemplify the highest service standards to the community through their diligence, dedication, and character. This award may also be granted to team members who develop innovative programs that enhance the department's mission or improve the quality of life for the residents of Montgomery County.
The Community Service Award will be given to the team member who makes a significant contribution, above and beyond the ordinary call of duty, to the community service component of the department’s mission. The award recognizes those instances, over a period, where the team member’s diligence, teamwork, and perseverance exemplified the highest service standards to the community.
A Unit Citation will be awarded to all unit members who have performed excellently through teamwork, diligence, and perseverance.
