Hector Ayala

On Sunday, April 4, 2010 (Easter morning), at approximately 2:21 a.m., 4th District officers were responding to assist an officer called to the scene of a fight. While responding to assist his fellow officer, Officer Hector Ayala was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Officer Ayala, a 4th District midnight officer, was westbound on Randolph Road approaching Denley Road. The officer’s 2003 Ford Crown Victoria left the roadway and struck a tree on the right side of the roadway in the 3000 block of Randolph Road. Other officers responding to the fight call stopped to assist him and summoned Fire/Rescue personnel. Officer Ayala was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Ayala received a posthumous promotion to Sergeant.

Officer Ayala was thirty one years old and a seven-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department. At the time of Officer Ayala’s death, his son “Junior” was fifteen months old. His wife was seven months pregnant with triplets. On June 24, 2010, his wife gave birth to three beautiful girls. Officer Ayala was also survived by his parents and two siblings.
