Art Contest

Combine your love of art and fandoms by entering MoComCon’s 2026 Art contest!

This year’s theme is: Draw your own Original Character!

Invent your own original character from any fandom, book, television show, movie, or game (board, video, arcade, or other).

Contest opens Monday, January 5, 2026 and closes Monday, February 9, 2026.

Contest Basics

  • You do not need a library card to enter.
  • Completed entries are due between Monday, January 5, 2026, and Monday, February 9, 2026.
  • Electronic submissions only.
  • The top 10 Art Contest entries in each age group will be published for viewing online via the MCPL website. Artists’ names will not be released.

Contest Guidelines

  • Artwork must be suitable for a family environment.
  • No explicit content, images, words, or weapons.
  • Contestants must adhere to all MCPL Guidelines Governing the Use of Public Libraries and Guidelines for Behavior.
  • Art entries must be your own original work.
  • Three age groups in Art Contest: Child (Ages 5-12), Teen (Ages 12-18), and Adult (Ages 19+).
  • Limit: one Art entry per person.
  • Entries must be submitted before the deadline of 5pm, February 9, 2026, submit completed electronic entry form, including one JPG or PDF image of the Artwork.

Contest Prizes

  • Entries in Art Contest will be judged on creativity and originality, technical skill and execution, visual impact, emotional impact and engagement, and overall impression.
  • Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners and Honorable Mentions in each age group.
  • Art Contest finalists and winners will be notified by email or phone prior to MoComCon.
  • Prizes will be available for pickup at the contestant’s selected MCPL library after Wednesday, April 10, 2026.
  • All judges’ decisions are final.

Cosplay Contest

Enter the fandom with MoComCon’s annual cosplay contest!

Contest Basics

  • You do not need a library card to enter.
  • Limit: one entry per person.
  • Two age groups: Teen (ages 13–17) and Adult (ages 18+).
  • Cosplay entries must be able to participate in-person at BlackRock Center for the Arts (adjacent to Germantown Library) on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 3:00-5:00PM.
  • Entry forms will only be accepted in person at the MoComCon Information table at BlackRock Center for the Arts (adjacent to Germantown Library) on Saturday, March 21 starting at 11:00 AM.
  • No electronic submissions.
  • Space is limited to the first 20 entries in each age group.
  • Costumes must be suitable for a family environment. No explicit content, images, words, or weapons, including replica and costume pieces.
  • Contestants must adhere to all MCPL Guidelines Governing the Use of Public Libraries and Guidelines for Behavior.

Contest Guidelines

  • Create and dress up in a costume of your favorite character from any fandom, book, television show, movie, game (board, video, arcade or other), or invent your own original character!
  • Costumes may include some purchased, pre-made components.

Contest Prizes

  • Cosplay winners will be selected during the live MoComCon event on March 21, 2026, and must be present to participate and win.
  • Prizes will be awarded in the following four categories for each age group:
    1. Best Presentation
    2. Most Creative
    3. Judge's Choice
    4. Peer-to-Peer Award
  • All judges’ decisions are final.

Cosplay Parade for Ages 0-12

  • Children ages 0-12 may participate in a cosplay parade, leading up to the contest.
  • Line-up for the parade will take place in the ground-level meeting room of the Germantown Library. Line-up begins at 2:30 PM and will end, next door, at the BlackRock Main Stage no later than 3:15 PM.
  • First 30 kids only.
  • Children’s names will not be announced.
  • Children will not be judged.
  • An adult, 18 or older, must accompany all children walking in the parade.
  • MCPL is not responsible for the monitoring of children participating in the parade.
  • Above cosplay contest rules and guidelines apply.
