Maryland EMT Recertification Requirements

The MCFRTA provides one option for your Maryland EMT Recertification. Other options are available in the state of Maryland.

In your three (3) year Maryland certification period you must complete both courses but they can be completed in any order and anythime during your recertification period. Registration for the On-Line Course is accomplished through OTRS for both career and voluteer personnel. Volunteer personnel must register for all course through their departments training officer. Career personnel will be detailed to the academy for the 12 Hour Skills course.

  1. Complete a 12 hour EMT Skills Class
    1. Consists of two (2) six hour days.
      1. Career Personnel: Follows a particular shift
      2. Volunteer Friendly Schedule:  Weekends, typically a Saturday and Sunday, with occassional Sunday/Sunday classses. 
      3. No EMT Skills classes offered during the months of  June, July, August, December
      4. No Weekend SKills Classes offered during the months of January, February
  2. Complete a 12 hour EMT On-Line Course
    1. Consists of 10-15 individual courses that can be completed in any order. But, all courses must be completed during the month that you are registered in.
    2. No On-Line Courses are offered during the months of June and December annually
    3. Registration is via OTRS
    4. All classes begin and are available for all registered students on the first of the month
