Age, Licensure, and Length of Service pre-requisites must be met by the start date of the course.

Certification pre-requisites must be listed in PCAP or PIMS by the registration close date.  
Contact the Registrar with questions regarding PSTA transcripts.

NOTE:  For ALL apparatus operator courses each student must submit a non-certified copy of their motor vehicle driving record by the end of session 1.  If you have a copy of your driving record on file with Driver Training, it can not be older than 6 months.  Students who do not provide the information by session 1 or whose record does not meet the criteria per MCFRS Policy 23-07AMII will not be permitted to participate in the course.

EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATORS COURSE (EVOC)

Prerequisites EVOC

  • By the first day of class - Must be at least 19 years old
  • By the first day of class - possess a valid non-provisional Maryland Class 'C' License or Out-of-State equivalent
  • By close of registration - IECS certified Firefighter I or EMS  Provider 1
  • By the first day of class - At least six (6) months MCFRS affiliation.

EVO Equivalency Process Summary

Starting January 1, 2022, we will no longer accept MFRI EVOC that was taught outside of MCFRS PSTA. For those people who took MFRI EVOC prior to January 1, 2022, we have provided EVOC Equivalency on February 27, 2022. This will be the last EVOC Equivalency class offered.


Prerequisites EVOC Equivalency

  • By the first day of class - Must be at least 19 years old
  • By the first day of class - possess a valid non-provisional Maryland Class 'C' License or Out-of-State equivalent
  • By close of registration - Provide proof of MFRI Emergency Vehicle Operator Course completion to Driver Training Program Management.
  • By close of registration - Provide copy of non-certified driving record to Driver Training Program Management.

CLASS "B" APPARATUS DRIVERS

Prerequisites Class B

By the first day of class:
  • Must be at least 20 years old
  • Possess a valid non-provisional Maryland Class 'C' License or Out-of-State equivalent
  • EMS Unit Driver for 1 year
  • 2 years MCFRS experience
By the close of registration, PCAP or PIMS must display:
  • IECS certified Firefighter II
  • successful completion or equivalency of Pumps & Hydraulics or Rescue Technician (both courses) or Aerial Operations Course

  • Class 'B' Apparatus Driver for 1 year
  • 3 years MCFRS experience
By the close of registration, PCAP or PIMS must display:
  • IECS certified Firefighter II
  • successful completion or equivalency of Aerial Operations Course
