K9 Blitz Sgt. Joe McGrogan and K9 Blitz

On March 8, 1985, MCP K9 Blitz was shot and killed while apprehending an armed, residential robbery suspect in Bethesda.

K9 Blitz, a Rottweiler, was known as a "gentle giant." Many officers on the robbery scene said that K9 Blitz took the bullet intended for his partner, Sgt. McGrogan.

The suspect was ultimately shot and killed by officers.

K9 Blitz is the only Montgomery County Police K9 killed in the line of duty.
