The purpose of the program is to deter and solve crime by incentivizing the installation of security cameras in geographic areas experiencing relatively high incidents of crime.

An owner or tenant of a property that is used as a residence, business, or nonprofit organization located within an eligible priority area may apply.

Locations within Montgomery County Police Districts identified by the Police Chief as needing additional security cameras based on public safety indicators, including crime levels. Priority Areas will be evaluated annually.

Security camera systems shall meet the minimum technical and video specifications published on the Police Department’s application website and must retain video footage for at least seven (7) days. Security camera systems shall be installed on the exterior of a building and must be weatherproof.

The rebate is for the cost of the camera, not to exceed two hundred fifty dollars ($250). Other costs, such as installation, accessories, recording subscription, and video storage, are not covered.

The maximum rebates are limited to one (1) security camera per qualifying residence or up to (5) security cameras per qualifying business or nonprofit organization.

Residents who are interested in participating in the program are required to register their cameras with MCPD. As part of this program, Montgomery County will not have access to live video from the camera.

The collection, dissemination, and use of video by MCPD will be for official law enforcement purposes. Efforts will be made to ensure the anonymity of the Applicant.

If your application is denied, you will have to submit a new application.

1. The completed security camera incentive program application form.
2. Proof of purchase of an applicable security camera purchased on or after November 15, 2023. Cameras purchased before November 15, 2023, are not eligible.
3. Make, model, and serial number of the security camera.
4. Verification of the installation of the security camera system.

Upon the determination that an Applicant has applied and complied with all the requirements, and subject to the availability of funds, the applicable amount shall be provided to the Applicant from the Montgomery County Government Department of Finance.

If the security camera system is installed by a business with a valid Business License that is engaged in the installation of security systems, the business shall certify the installation of the camera system at the property, including photographic evidence.

If the security camera system is installed by the property owner, business owner, or another person without a valid Business License, an officer from the applicable district station will conduct an on-site visit to verify the installation of the security camera.
