Kemp Mill Stormwater Pond

As a part of the County's effort to protect our waters, the stormwater pond (Pond - 11130) within the Kemp Mill community, was selected for upgrade to help reduce stormwater pollution draining into our streams.

In partnership with the property owner, Maryland – National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), the County completed the conversion of the prior dry pond into a shallow marsh wetland in June 2019.  The County also replaced aging infrastructure in the pond and brought the pond into compliance with current safety and performance standards.  As part of the shallow marsh wetland project, the County planted over 2,000 native aquatic plants, trees, and shrubs to help improve habitat and stormwater runoff to Northwest Branch and the downstream Anacostia River.
