Valley Park Stormwater Pond

Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection Completed work on the Valley Park stormwater pond in June of 2017.  The pond is located in the Magruder Branch Stream Valley Park in Damascus and receives stormwater runoff from a portion of the Damascus town center.  Work on the pond included dredging out accumulated sediment to reestablish a permanent wet pond, replacement of aging infrastructure within the pond and bringing the pond into compliance with curent safety and performance standards.  The pond improvements also have significant environmental benefits downstream in Magruder Branch as well as within and around the pond itself, such as improved water quality, reduced stormflows, improved habitat for pond criters and pollinators.

A public meeting was held during the concept stage of this project for residents living near the pond to learn about and provide input on the project design.  A follow-up public meeting was later held to inform the community about final plans and upcoming construction activity as well as to answer questions and concerns.
