Yard Trim Composting Facility

The Montgomery County Yard Trim Composting Facility (MCYTCF), located in Dickerson, Maryland, has been in operation since 1983. The Maryland Environmental Service (MES) operates the facility and markets the finished products under an intergovernmental agreement with Montgomery County. MES is a state agency structured as a nonstock, nonprofit, public purpose corporation established to assist Maryland jurisdictions with environmental operations. MES markets the finished compost produced at the facility under their Leafgro® brand name. Leafgro® is available in bags and in bulk. Leafgro® is available at lawn and garden dealers throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The MCYTCF site comprises 118 acres and is located adjacent to the Montgomery County Resource Recovery Facility. Incoming tons of yard trim is capped at 77,000 tons per year.
