Rockville and Shady Grove Metro Station Construction - Reopening January 16th

Bus stop relocations for Rockville Station - West side temporary bus stops remain in operation until February

The Rockville and Shady Grove Metro stations will close for four months from September 11 through mid-January 2022  to allow work crews to demolish and replace the concrete canopy at the Rockville Metro station. Metro announced on November 3, 2021 a delay in the reopening of Shady Grove and Rockville stations for the Rockville Canopy Replacement Project. The completion date was originally December 11, 2021.

Work on the project was halted to allow Metro to bring additional trains into service from the Shady Grove Rail Yard to address the railcar shortage caused by the removal of Metro’s 7000-series fleet. Additional quality control issues with the canopy’s glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels are also impacting the project schedule. Free bus shuttle service will continue to operate at Shady Grove, Rockville and Twinbrook stations throughout the project.

To bypass the station closures, consider using the Twinbrook, White Flint, or Grosvenor-Strathmore Stations instead.

Be prepared for loud noise and changes in traffic and pedestrian access throughout construction.
