OMS Health and Risk Prevention creates programs that target department-specific barriers to healthy living. Discover recipes, workouts, and stress management techniques that fit into a hectic schedule with events brought to your worksite.

OMS Health and Risk Prevention works closely and continuously with the Division of Risk Management to safeguard employee safety and wellbeing. Health and risk prevention initiatives target lifestyle variations within different workgroups.

Got Low Back Pain?

OMS Health and Risk Prevention and the Division Risk Management will work with a champion in your department to develop a fitness and nutrition program that will reduce low back pain. Low back pain is just the start. If something impacts your ability to work safely and effectively, OMS Health and Risk Prevention will help. Topics include nutrition, fitness, mobility, and stress management. Please see the Services tab to learn more.

Fitness

  • Home Exercise: Free phone apps and YouTube videos for quick exercise at home or on the go. Time commitment ranges from 10 to 60 minutes for chair exercise, dance, yoga, strength training, and more!

OMS Health and Risk Prevention provides a variety of nutrition, fitness, mobility, and stress management services, including:

Group Presentations:
15 – 60-minute presentations on a variety of topics:
  • Job Specific Presentations: Discover job-specific ways to fit healthy eating around a non-traditional work schedule (e.g., police, firefighters, bus operators).
  • Eat to Thrive: Find outhow to fit healthy into a busy life.
  • Nutrition Mythbusters: Discuss the most common nutrition myths and the pillars of any healthy eating plan.
  • Eating Stress Free: Eliminate the guesswork and stress from eating well. Discover efficient ways to meal prep, save money, and stop emotional eating.
  • Healthy Holidays: Build strategies to eat well during the holiday season.
Stretching Demonstrations and Fitness Classes
15 – 30 minute fitness classes, tailored to your work group.
  • Stretching Demonstration: Learn the basic stretches targeting your work group's typical aches and pains.
  • Low Back Release: Release tension in the lower back and engage the core to provide support throughout the workday.
Cooking Demonstrations
  • Tailored to the department and budget, this program is designed to highlight simple, healthy meals that can be made with ease.
    • Cooking tips and recipes
    • Demonstrations based on key populations (e.g., diabetic recipes) or general healthy eating

Fire Station Visits:

  • Nutrition Presentation: A 30 – 60-minute roundtable discussion about healthy eating, portion control, optimizing sleep, time management, and more!
  • Body Composition Assessments: Determine body fat percentage (via bioelectrical impedance handheld) and waist/hip measurements.
  • Workout: A 20 – 40-minute circuit workout, designed to optimize firefighter performance.
  • Mobility Demonstration: A 30-minute foam rolling demonstration, ideal for reducing pain and stiffness.
  • Nutrition Coaching: A 30 – 60-minute confidential consultation tailored to your individual nutrition needs. Schedule an appointment at FROMs, the PSTA, on the phone, or at your station.
