Monitoring DC Water Potomac Interceptor Collapse
Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) are actively monitoring the work of DC Water to address the sanitary sewer overflow near the Clara Barton Parkway, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of the Environment and Maryland Department of Health. Throughout the response period, DEP (through its two Board Members on DC Water) has provided input and proposed questions to DC Water on environmental remediation.
DC Water is responsible for containment, repairs, environmental testing, and remediation related to the sewer overflow. Montgomery County will continue to share updates and health guidance as new information becomes available.
