Public Safety System Modernization
The County approved Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) funding to support Public Safety System Modernization (PSSM) in FY2009. PSSM is comprised of five major components:
- Fire Station Alerting
- Computer Aided Dispatch
- Records Management System
- Radio Infrastructure
- Replacement Mobile Computers
The PSSM involves coordination and project management amongst the Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutionss (TEBS), the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (FRS), the Department of General Services (DGS), and the Office of County Executive (CEX). The PSSM project will enable Montgomery County first responders to leverage IP-radio technology, achieve interoperability with neighboring jurisdictions as well as state and federal agencies, to improve service response times, to manage records using modern technology, and to leverage inter-agency data sharing.
Oversight of the PSSM project is provided by the Montgomery County Council. The PSSM project is on track and expected to be completed in FY2017.
