Upcoming Improvements to the Montgomery County Government Website

Montgomery County Government (MCG) is updating its website to better serve residents, businesses, and visitors. The redesigned site will feature a modern look and feel, a more consistent user experience across departments, improved search and navigation, and enhanced accessibility. Explore the questions below and the timeline to learn more.

Why is the Montgomery County Government website being updated?

We’ve heard from residents and County staff that the website could be easier to navigate and more consistent across departments. In response, MCG launched the Web 2.0 Redesign Project to improve the site’s usability, update the tools that support it, and create a more modern and user-friendly digital experience.

What’s changing in the new site?

The updated website will offer:

  • Simplified navigation and search: A consistent layout across all County department pages will help visitors find information more quickly and easily.
  • Modern design: The new look will be cleaner, more accessible, and easier to use on all devices.
  • Upgraded technology: Behind-the-scenes improvements will:
    • Support future growth and better service delivery
    • Ensure accessibility for all users
    • Improve how content is managed and updated
    • Enhance site performance and analytics

When will the updated site launch?

The site is scheduled to launch on April 20. Additional updates and refinements may occur after the launch date.

Can I provide feedback about the new website?

We welcome feedback from site visitors! Once the updated site is launched, the project redesign team will provide a survey that site visitors can use to provide feedback about the site.

Will my bookmarks to County webpages work when the site is updated?

In most cases, your bookmarks will continue to work. However, some links may change, so there may be a few instances in which you’ll have to update your bookmarks.

Will the updated site be accessible to people with disabilities?

Absolutely. The new site will align with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2, level AA (WCAG 2.2 AA), which is a widely recognized standard for web accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) through its Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines offer a set of recommendations to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, promoting inclusivity and usability for everyone.

Will the updated site support languages other than English?

Certainly. The new site will incorporate a software tool called Weglot, designed to provide instant, high-quality translations of webpage content to over 100 languages beyond English.
