Steps to Search and Apply for an MCG Job

  1. Search for a job 

    Visit the Montgomery County Government Careers jobs board on GovernmentJobs to view all open jobs. To search for specific jobs, follow the steps listed in the Find Jobs section of the Online Employment Application Guide.

    Important: Beginning August 1, 2024, you must first create and log in to your GovernmentJobs account to apply for an MCG job (see Step 3 below).

  2. Prepare your resume

    MCG requires applicants to complete an online application and upload a resume. Open the resume preparation tips web page for some helpful tips on how to prepare your resume for an MCG job. Paper applications and resumes are not accepted.

  3. Create a GovernmentJobs account

    To apply for an MCG job beginning August 1, 2024, you must have a GovernmentJobs account. (This also applies to employees.) If you do not already have an account, then you must create one using the Create Account section of the Online Employment Application Guide before applying. 
  4. Sign in and apply for a job

    Visit the Montgomery County Government Careers jobs board on GovernmentJobs and click the Sign In button (top right of screen). To apply for a job, follow the steps listed in the Apply for a Job section of the Online Employment Application Guide. Give yourself plenty of time as you will need to complete the online application, answer candidate qualification assessment questions, and upload your resume. 

    Current MCG employees: When you apply for an MCG job listed on Montgomery County Government Careers, you will need to enter your employee ID number and hire date. You can find this information in the My Information folder of Employee Self Service. (Your ID number is shown as your Assignment number, and your hire date as the earliest Assignment Start Date in the historical chart.)

  5. Check your job application status

    Job seekers who applied before July 13, 2024: Log in to your AccessMCG Extranet account to check your job application status. (MCG employees should log in to Employee Self-Service )

    Anyone who applies beginning August 1, 2024 (including MCG employees):  Sign in to your GovernmentJobs account and follow the steps listed in the Check Application Status section of the Online Employment Application Guide.

  • Sign up for MCG job alert emails: Be one of the first to be notified when an MCG job in your field becomes available. Take time today to set up your job alerts by visiting Montgomery County Government Job Alerts. You do not need to set up a GovernmentJobs account to do so. (Employees: If you were subscribed to MCG’s iRecruitment system internal job alerts, you will no longer receive them beginning July 13. You will need to sign up for Montgomery County Government Job Alerts to start receiving email notifications about the latest job openings beginning August 1.)
