Dear Residents:

Welcome to the RecAssist! We are accepting applications for RecAssist 2016 (January 1,2016 through December 31, 2016). Once received, we will review your application/documentation and send you a letter informing you of the amount you are eligible to use towards payment for a Recreation class or activity.

It's important to remember that RecAssist funds are on a “first come, first served” basis. We offer hundreds of classes and activities for you to choose from and encourage you to register early!

General Information About RecAssist (Financial Assistance)

What is the RecAssist Fund?

The RecAssist Fund is provided by Montgomery County Recreation to make financial assistance available to County residents who receive public assistance. The RecAssist Fund subsidizes Recreation program fees so that eligible residents can pay reduced fees for Recreation programs.


How does RecAssist work?

There are several important new changes with the RecAssist Fund:

  • The current RecAssist Fund is available for 12 months – January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016.
  • A 20% co-payment per class or program, per participant, is required at the time of registration.
  • Use of the RecAssist Fund is available on a “first come, first served” based. You may use the amount on your account only until the RecAssist Fund is used up.
  • Once the RecAssist Fund is used up, you must pay full price for all registrations, even if you have not used the entire RecAssist amount on your account.
  • The amount that each individual qualifies for will be placed on the individual's account and may only be used by that individual. We will however allow a one-time per year transfer of awarded funds from one eligible family member to other eligible family members.


How much RecAssist am I eligible to receive?

You may only use one type of assistance to qualify for RecAssist funds.

  • Temporary Cash Assistance – will receive $300.00 per eligible family member
  • Food Stamps (Food Stamp documentation must show the amount of monthly assistance received)
    • Those receiving $10.00 to $50.00 per month – will receive $50.00 per eligible family member
    • Those receiving $51.00 - $100.00 per month – will receive $100.00 per eligible family member
    • Those receiving $101.00 or more per month – will receive $150.00 per eligible family member
  • Medical Assistance - $150.00 per eligible family member
  • Care for Kids - $150.00 per eligible family member
  • Supplemental Security Income - $300.00 per eligible family member
  • Housing assistance from a shelter - $150.00 per eligible family member


What can I use RecAssist for?

The RecAssist Fund may only be used for Montgomery County Recreation classes and programs like yoga, summer camps, swim lessons, swim passes, and swim punch passes (only one swim punch pass per eligible family member, per year may be purchased using RecAssist funds ), sports, art, dance and many, many more.

However, you cannot use RecAssist to pay for:

  • Sports team leagues fees
  • Facility rentals
  • Recreation Gift Cards
  • Daily pool admissions
  • Supplemental fees including, security deposits, withdrawal fees, materials fees, late pick-up fees or to purchase aquatic merchandise.
  • A previous balance on your account
  • As an adjustment of previous registrations


How do I know if I'm eligible for RecAssist?

You are eligible to receive RecAssist when you show proof that you are currently receiving one of the following:

  • Temporary Cash Assistance
  • Food Stamps
  • Medical Assistance
  • Care for Kids
  • Supplemental Security Income.
  • Housing Assistance from a Shelter.


No other documentation will be accepted. The amount of RecAssist placed on your Recreation account is based on the number of family members your documentation shows who are currently receiving assistance.


When Can I Apply for RecAssist?

RecAssist financial assistance applications will be available online and at Recreation's Administration Office beginning December 10, 2014. We will continue to accept 2015 RecAssist applicatons until November 30, 2015. Applications will be processed and the amount of assistance for which you are eligible will be placed on your Recreation account within 2 weeks of the date we receive your application. You may begin using RecAssist on January 1, 2016.


How do I apply for RecAssist?



  • Gather your documentation showing you are currently receiving public assistance from the types listed above.
  • Fill out the RecAssist application. To help complete your RecAssist form correctly, please click on the examples of completed forms below.
  • Submit your completed application and copies of your documentation to Recreation.
    Your completed application and documentation may be submitted by fax, by mail or walked-in to our Administration Office.
    • To send by fax – the number is 240-777-6818.
    • If you prefer to mail or walk-in your application and documentation, the Recreation Administration Office is located at 4010 Randolph Road, Silver Spring, 20902.
      Walk in applications will be accepted between 10:00am and 2:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, except on county holidays.


Allow 2 weeks for your application to be processed. Please be sure you only submit copies of your documentation because we will not return any document. Qualifying applicants will receive an award letter in the mail in about two weeks.
