OBP (a division of TEBS) with a Digital Equity Focus
Montgomery Connects is the County’s digital equity program operated by the Department of Technology & Enterprise Business Solutions (TEBS), Office of Broadband Programs (OBP). The focus is (1) to ensure all households have access to robust and reliable home broadband, and (2) that everyone has access to a device to use the internet and (3) the skills to use technology and the internet for daily living, civic engagement, and participation in the digital economy. This focus on digital equity is evident in several services offered throungh Montgomery Connects. initiatives that seek to introduce high quality broadband services to the more rural and less densely populated areas of the County. The Sugarloaf area of the County are the most recent beneficiaries of this effort.
The County has received two federal Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) Grants totaling $15.9 million to purchase and distribute 40,028 laptop computers to residents who would not otherwise have access to computers.
This program provides residents 60 and better with free technology focused classes. Over 7,000 residents have benefited from this program over the last six years.
