African Heritage Month 2022: The African Influence on America

On September 13, 2022, the Montgomery County Council commemorated African Heritage Month by recognizing and celebrating the contributions of individuals who have brought aspects of African culture to the County, contributing to the region’s diversity and rich cultural traditions. The presentation includes a video highlighting African art, dance, food, fashion and music.

For the arts, the video features Emmy nominated musician Cheick Hamala Diabate from Mali, dancer and artistic director Michael Friend, and Ethiopian painter Solomon Asfaw. For food and culinary arts, the video features Egyptian Chef Iman Moussa, Gambian Chef Hatib Joof, and food historian and writer Emily Dietsch. In addition, Nigerian fashion designer Busayo Shittu discusses the inspiration behind her work at Bibire Designs.
