Hines Road Traffic Safety Improvements
Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is proposing safety improvements along Hines Road in Olney, MD. The 1.3-mile corridor, which connects MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) to Cashell Road, is classified as an area connector and has a posted speed limit of 35 mph. Following a review of the crash history, traffic speeds, and traffic volumes along Hines Road, the MCDOT has identified several improvements intended to enhance safety for all roadway users.
The proposed improvements include new crosswalks and ADA‑compliant pedestrian ramps, pedestrian refuge islands and concrete medians, pavement markings, and dynamic speed signs (DSS) for traffic calming. These improvements support the County’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating serious and fatal crashes by 2030.
A concept sketch showing the proposed improvements is listed below under project documents.
