Hines Road Traffic Safety Improvements
Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has proposed safety improvements along Hines Road, Olney, MD. The approximately 1.3-mile corridor, which connects MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) to Cashwell Road, currently functions as an Area Connector with a posted speed limit of 35 mph. Following a review of crash history, traffic speeds, and traffic volumes, the County has identified several upgrades intended to improve safety for all roadway users.
The proposed improvements include new crosswalks and ADA‑accessible ramps, pedestrian refuge islands, concrete medians, updated pavement markings, and permanent Dynamic Speed Limit Signs to help calm traffic. These upgrades support the County’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating serious and fatal crashes by 2030.
The project will be coordinated with the Division of Highway Services (DHS) as part of their scheduled resurfacing work on Hines Road. A concept sketch showing the proposed improvements will be uploaded to this website one week before the scheduled meeting.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is hosting a virtual community meeting to present safety improvements. Details about the virtual meeting are listed below:
