Program Goal

The purpose of this program is to provide education and training to young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through an innovative workforce and career development model that benefits the individual, the workplace and community.

Position Type

Interns are unpaid and work on a volunteer basis.

Duration

  • The program runs from September to June, and is based on school year calendar.
  • Interns participate in three 10-week, intensive worksite internships supported by job coaches.
  • Interns work approximately 25 hours per week and attend one hour of classroom instruction daily.
  • Program hours: 8:30 am to 2:30 pm

Eligibility

Applicants must be:
  • Between the ages of 18 and 30 and have an intellectual and/or developmental disability
  • Eligible for DDA funding
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19

LEAP4MCG: Leveraging Employment Abilities Program

Program Goal

LEAP4MCG is a partnership between the Office of Human Resources and the Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of this program is to provide applicants with disabilities who have limited work experience and have not held merit positions with MCG, employment opportunities with the County with the intent of developing skills and gaining experience that may lead to employment after LEAP4MCG participation ends. 

Position Type

Full-time or part-time paid positions that include benefits and eligibility to participate in MCG’s retirement plan.

Duration

Two-year term positions.

Eligibility

Applicants must: 

  • Meet the eligibility criteria for certification by the Maryland Department of Rehabilitation or equivalent out-of-state agency, and
  • Be certified by the Maryland Department of Education Division of Rehabilitation Services or by an equivalent out-of-state vocational rehabilitation agency as meeting the definition of persons with severe disabilities document based upon medical evidence (Schedule A Letter); and
  • Meet the minimum requirements for the position and be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation; and
  • Provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus prior to their first date of employment. Individuals who are unable to be vaccinated should contact OHR@montgomerycountymd.gov to discuss possible accommodations.

Applicants must not:

  • Be current or prior County merit employees.
