Tips, Rules and Details

Tips

  • Speak slowly and clearly so that all your words are understood by the audience and the judges.
  • Make sure background music or sounds do not interfere with any spoken dialogue.
  • Screen text, size and display need to be readable.
  • The message must be 30 seconds; slates and credits cannot be overlaid onto the video or included in the 30 second message allotment. Entries over 30 seconds will be disqualified.
  • Include credits that list:
       School
       Name of the student individual contestant (first name only)
       Names of the student team contestants (first names only)

Contest Rules

  • Your video must address pedestrian safety awareness and best practices
  • Entries must have a title
  • Entries can be no more than 30 seconds in length
  • Entries can be individual or a team (up to 4 members)
  • Each student participating in the contest must be listed on the entry form
  • One entry per team or individual. Students may enter as an Individual or as a Team of up to 4 students from the same school. If a student in any way participates in more than one video, all of those entries will be disqualified.
  • No professional assistance
  • No use of copyrighted material is allowed, including background music
  • Entries must not contain inappropriate or explicit images nor the use of profanity
  • COVID-19 Safety: Must abide by any local mandates regarding social distancing, masks, etc.
  • Five SSL hours awarded to each contestant for qualified videos successfully submitted by February 22, 2022. SSL hours will be awarded by the end of March.
  • Video submissions will be accepted in both English and Spanish languages
  • All submissions must be uploaded to Google Drive, Drop Box, YouTube, or similar program and a link must be provided on the entry form

Additional Details

  • High School students enrolled in MCPS or private schools in Montgomery County, MD are eligible to enter.
  • Contest is open from February 1-22, 2022.
  • Winning videos will be posted on the MCDOT Ped Safety website and social media channels.
  • All entries become the property of MCDOT
  • Winning videos may be submitted to multiple media outlets. Decisions regarding use of video rest with the media outlets’ director.
  • MCDOT has the right to edit and to use all entries for public information purposes.
