Montgomery County numbers:
- 5 fatal crashes in Montgomery County each year from distracted driving (189 across all Maryland)
- 2,823 injury crashes in Montgomery County each year from distracted driving (25,672 across all Maryland)
Nationwide – Teen Distracted Driver Data:
- Seven percent of the people who died in distraction-affected crashes in 2018 were teens 15 to 19 years old.
- Drivers under 30 are overrepresented in fatal crashes with drivers using cell phones. The 15 to 19 age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the fatal crash.
Nationwide – Cell Phone Use:
- 8% of fatal crashes had a distracted driver
- 506 non-motorists (pedestrians, bicyclists) were struck and killed by distracted drivers in the US in 2018
- 349 fatal crashes in the US in 2018 have involved cell phone use as a distraction
