Martin Luther King MS, Lake Seneca ES and Waters Landing ES Walkshed Safety Evaluations
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) completed a walkability study in 2020 for Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Lake Seneca Elementary School, and Waters Landing Elementary School. This study was part of a countywide initiative to identify safe and accessible routes for students walking and bicycling to school.
The study assessed existing infrastructure conditions and recommended improvements within each school's walkshed to enhance safety and accessibility for students traveling by foot or bike. An in-person community meeting was held on October 23, 2024, to present the proposed sidewalk and safety improvements identified in the study.
Project Update:
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) would like to thank community members for their participation and feedback on the proposed sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements within the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Lake Seneca Elementary School, and Waters Landing Elementary School walksheds.
Based on input received during the community meetings held on June 25 and July 29, 2025, as well as comments submitted by email and in writing, MCDOT has revised the scope of work. The updated proposal reflects the community’s preferences and priorities.
