Drop Box Attendants

Drop Box Attendants are tasked with picking up mail-in ballot envelopes with voted ballots from ballot drop boxes located throughout Montgomery County. Drop Box Attendants are trained to accurately pick up mail-in ballot envelopes and secure each drop box. Additional responsibilities include loading and unloading the blue ballot bins from the vehicle and transporting to the Board of Election warehouse. Drop Box Attendants are assigned a pick-up route by the Board of Elections staff and will work in a team of two, each of different party affiliation. This role begins six weeks prior to Election Day and requires use of a personal vehicle and cell phone by one team member. There will be no milage reimbursement for this role.


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily pick-up of mail-in ballot envelopes from drop boxes
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Complete paperwork and ensure security of ballots in their custody 

Requirements:
  • Complete all training (In-Person)
  • Work as a team of two, each of a different party affiliation.
  • Able to speak clearly, listen well and be courteous to fellow Election Workers
  • Able to sit, stand and drive for extended periods of time.
  • Automobile:  The vehicle must be able to transport two people, and the election materials. The vehicle may be a car, SUV, pick–up truck with a covered bed, or van.    Public transportation, taxi cabs, ride sharing services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, and mopeds are not an acceptable means of transportation to serve in this position.
  • Cell Phone: required for use during election related activities to communicate with the Board of Elections staff. In the event of any unusual or unexpected circumstance, the Drop Box Attendants must be able to contact and be contacted by the Board of Elections immediately.
  • Minimum age - 16 years old


Election Service Stipend: $100.00/shift (non-driver) or $120.00/shift (driver)  | Training Payment: $30.00

Election Service Hours

  • Shift #1 – 9:30 am to about 1:00 pm (Daily for 6 weeks prior to Election Day)
  • Shift #2 – 4:00 pm – to about 7:30pm closing (Daily for 1 week prior to and on Election Day)
