2015 News

Spring - Colesville Garage (Garage 21) is a four level, 583 public parking garage that was built in 1967. In 2010 the garage was slated for a major restoration project. Considerable capital was needed for the renovation, repair and reconstruction of the facility. Given the large capital cost and findings from the 2010 Silver Spring Parking Demand Study noted a system wide public parking surplus. Based on the study it was determined to not proceed with the renovations and pursue redevelopment of the property.

An additional Silver Spring Garage 21 Impact Study was done in 2011 and it confirmed that the permanent closure of Garage 21 would not result in a deficit of parking in the surrounding area. In 2012 Montgomery County Department of Transportation proceeded with the sale of Garage 21 to a private developer. The property will be redeveloped into a mixed-use development with office and retail.
