2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election Ballot Canvass

The Montgomery County Board of Elections wishes to remind voters that the unofficial results released on the Board’s website on election night contain only those votes cast during Early Voting and in the polling place on Election Day.

To be counted, vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked no later than July 19, and the oath on the postage-paid return envelope that arrives with the ballot must be signed. Those who choose to cast their votes using ballot drop boxes must submit their completed ballots by the final collection time – 8PM on Tuesday, July 19th. To identify the nearest ballot drop box and post office locator, text BOX plus zip code (example: BOX 20879) to 77788 or visit 777vote.org
Election officials must review the returned envelopes containing voted ballots for voters who cast a vote-by-mail or a provisional ballot. Vote-By-Mail and Provisional ballots are reviewed in a public process, referred to as the “canvass”, by bipartisan teams of Election Judges prior to the ballot being counted.

The first canvass of Vote-By-Mail ballots for the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary Election will begin on Thursday, July 21. Provisional ballots are canvassed beginning the following Wednesday, July 27, and canvassing of the remaining Vote-By-Mail ballots returned by the statutory deadline will begin on Friday, July 29. The Board of Canvassers will convene daily, beginning July 21, to consider challenges and make decisions about counting ballots referred for review. The Board of Canvassers will review referred ballots at 1PM and 5PM on each canvass day.

All canvass sessions, which are open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at Montgomery College Germantown Campus at 20200 Observation Drive, BE 151/152, Germantown, Maryland 20876.

Detailed schedule of Canvass sessions is presented below.  As canvass schedule is highly dependent on a number of returned vote-by-mail and provisional ballots, the schedule will be updated as needed.

Canvass will be open to the public and it will be livestreamed on the Board of Elections web site Canvass page at 777VOTE.org.  The public can observe the canvass process by selecting the Livestream link for that day on the schedule below.
