Canvass workers are election workers who serve during canvass of returned mail-in ballots.  Canvass worker positions are open around three weeks before election day and continue after Election Day until all ballots are canvassed. Canvassers serve only pre-scheduled days at the location designated for canvassing (Montgomery College – Germantown Campus). Full and part-day positions are available.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Verify that returned mail-in ballot envelopes meet legal requirements.
  • Verify the counts and open all mail-in ballot envelopes.
  • Review ballots as per instructions, and follow procedures for processing ballots.
  • Work as a bi-partisan team to complete all the tasks and verify each other’s work.
Requirements:
 
  • Read, write and speak the English language.
  • Able to speak clearly, listen well, and be courteous to fellow canvassers, and election staff.
  • Complete the in-person training provided on-site before the canvass.
  • Be organized and detailed.
  • Able to follow procedures, and written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Part-day (morning) – $87.50

Election Service Hours: 
Full-day – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Part-day (morning) - 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Part-day (afternoon) - 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
