Early Voting Runners (EVRNR) provide support to the early voting centers by transporting critical election materials once daily each day of early voting except the final day of early voting. The EVRNR’s arrive to the Board of Elections (warehouse- 18753 N. Frederick Ave. Suite 103 Gaithersburg MD 20789) at 6:30pm to pick up materials to be delivered to the early voting center. Then, in one car, two EVRNR’s of different party affiliations ride together to deliver the critical election materials. Once at the early voting center, the Chief Judge or Center Manager will provide materials to be returned to the Board of Elections. This role requires use of a personal vehicle and cell phone. There is no reimbursement for mileage or tolls for this role

Responsibilities:

  • In one vehicle with the other Early Voting Runner, safely and securely transport materials and requested supplies directly from the Board of Elections to the Early Voting Center
  • In one vehicle with the other Early Voting Runner, safely and securely transport materials and directly to the Board of Elections immediately after leaving the polling place
Requirements:
  • Minimum age - 18 years
  • Able to speak clearly, listen well and be courteous to voters and fellow Election Workers
  • Able to follow procedures and written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of major roadways throughout Montgomery County and the ability to navigate (using GPS or a map) to locate Early Voting Centers.
  • Automobile: The vehicle must be able to securely transport election materials. The vehicle may be a car, SUV, pick–up truck with a covered bed, or van. Public transportation, taxi cabs, ride sharing services (Uber, Lyft, etc.), motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, and mopeds are not an acceptable means of transportation to serve in this position.
  • Cell Phone: required for use to communicate with the Board of Elections while making deliveries.In the event of any unusual or unplanned circumstance, must be able to contact and be contacted by the Board of Elections immediately.

Service Hours and Service Stipend (payment)

  • This is a part-day position.
  • Early Voting Service Hours: 6:30 pm – to about 10:00 pm
  • Early Voting Payment: $100.00 (each day served) Training Payment: N/A
  • Note: This position is not eligible to receive the returning service bonus.
