***IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR POLITICAL CANDIDATES***
Under the County's Public Ethics Law and State election law, an individual seeking to file a
Certificate of Candidacy with election officials to be a candidate for Montgomery County
Council or County Executive must file a financial disclosure report by February 25 covering the
year 2013 and will not be allowed to file a Certificate of Candidacy unless the financial disclosure
report has been filed. If a Certificate of Candidacy was filed prior to January 1, 2014, a
candidate is required to file a supplemental financial disclosure report covering the year 2013
by February 27, 2014. A current Montgomery County employee seeking election to these positions
is not exempt from filing by these February dates, even though the employee may be required by
the County's Public Ethics Law to file an annual financial disclosure report by April 15. Failure to
file a financial disclosure report as required can be terminal to a candidacy. Questions regarding
the requirements to file financial disclosure by candidates should be directed to the
Montgomery County Board of Elections.
