The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will adjust several Ride On bus route schedules, add the new Route 40, and discontinue Route 10 on Sunday, June 29, to ensure consistent service amidst Metro service changes due to the Better Bus Network implementation and Ride On Reimagined Year 1 Implementation. The new schedules are available at

will be available in print by May 31st.

Route 10: Service will be discontinued and replaced by Metrobus Routes M12, M42, M44, & M60.

Route 34:
In response to community feedback, Route 34 will continue to provide service between Wheaton, Medical Center, and Bethesda. The current routing between Wheaton and Bethesda will remain the same. The following changes to other parts of the route will take effect on June 29, 2025:
- Route 34 will no longer provide service between Bethesda and Friendship Heights. Bus service on Wisconsin Avenue from Bethesda to Friendship Heights will be provided by new Metrobus route D96. For more information on D96, please see the
WMATA route profile.
- Route 34 will no longer provide peak-period service between Aspen Hill and Wheaton. Ride On Route 41, which currently provides service between Aspen Hill and Glenmont, will be extended south to Wheaton via Weller Road, Connecticut Avenue, Plyers Mill Road, and Georgia Avenue.

Route 40:
Will replace portions of Metrobus Routes Q2, Q4, and Q6. Route 40 will operate between Montgomery College-Rockville (MC-R) and Wheaton Metro station. Service span and headways will be comparable to current Q2/Q4/Q6 service between MC-R and Wheaton. Certain trips will end at Rockville Metro (early AM, late PM, all Sunday service).

Route 41:
Will be extended south to Wheaton Metro Station to replace Route 34 and L8 service on parts of Connecticut Avenue. All-day and weekend service on Plyers Mill Road between Kensington and Wheaton will also be added. Service to Glenmont will continue.

Route 42:
Service to Boiling Brook Parkway & Rocking Horse Road and to and from the William F. Bolger Center/U.S. Postal Service training facility will be discontinued.

: WMATA will discontinue Route L8. Ride On will no longer provide weekend service on this route. Find alternate routes

: WMATA will change the route number of Route T2 to M82 and provide service on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Ride On will no longer provide weekend service on this route.

Year 1 Frequently Asked Questions
The Ride On Reimagined Service and Implementation Plan is set to transform public transportation in Montgomery County by making it more efficient, accessible, and aligned with the needs of the community. The implementation of Ride On Reimagined Service will take place in phases beginning with the launch of the Year 1 Network on June 29, 2025.
What will happen to Route 10?
Route 10 will be discontinued. The last day of service will be Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Which bus routes will replace Route 10?
Route 10 will be replaced with portions of new Metrobus routes M12, M42, M44, and M60 routes.
- M12 will serve Parklawn Drive between Twinbrook Station and Randolph Road, and Randolph Road between Parklawn Drive and Veirs Mill Road.
- M42 will serve Randolph Road between Parklawn Drive and New Hampshire Avenue. It will also serve New Hampshire Avenue between Randolph and the White Oak Transit Center; and Lockwood Drive and Columbia Pike between White Oak and Tech Road.
- M44 will serve Randolph Road between Parklawn Drive and Columbia Pike, including the Tech Road Park & Ride.
- M60 will serve Lockwood Drive and Columbia Pike between White Oak and Tech Road.
Please note:
- M42 and M44 will terminate at North Bethesda Metro Station. Riders who wish to travel to Twinbrook may transfer to M12 on Randolph Road between Veirs Mill Road and Parklawn Drive.

What are the changes to Route 34?

What areas will Route 34 now serve?
Route 34 will continue to operate between Wheaton, Medical Center, and Bethesda using its current routing. Bus service along Wisconsin Avenue between Bethesda and Friendship Heights will be provided by Metrobus D96. Service between Wheaton and Aspen Hill will be provided by the Route 41 extension.
Will the bus bays at Metro Stations change?
- At Wheaton, both Route 34 and Route 41 will use bus bay F.
- At Medical Center, Route 34 will use bus bay D.
- At Bethesda, Route 34 will use bus bay H and new Metrobus D96 will use bus bay A.
- At Friendship Heights, new Metrobus D96 will use bus bay K.
What is the new Route 40?
The new Route 40 is a partial replacement for the Metrobus Q2, Q4, and Q6. It runs from the Wheaton Metro Station to Montgomery College Rockville including Rockville Metro Station, i.e. mostly Veirs Mill Road.
How does a Silver Spring rider now get to Rockville?
Silver Spring riders can take the new Metrobus M20 (replacing Routes Y2, Y7, and Y8) from the Silver Spring Transit Center along Georgia Avenue to the Wheaton Metro Station and transfer to Route 40.
How does a rider now get to Shady Grove Metro Station if using the new Route 40?
Riders can transfer to the Ride On Routes 55 or 101 at the Rockville Metro Station or Montgomery College Rockville or anywhere in between those.
Will Route 40 go to Montgomery College Rockville all day?
No. Route 40 will go to Montgomery College Rockville during normal business hours for the college.
Early morning and late evening trips on weekdays and Saturdays, and all trips on Sundays, will begin and end at Rockville Metro Station.
What is being changed to Route 41?
Effective June 29, 2025, Route 41 will be extended south to Wheaton Metro Station to replace Route 34 and L8 service on parts of Connecticut Avenue.
Will Route 41's frequency or service span change?
- Route 41’s frequency will increase from every 40 minutes to every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 35 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Service spans will change as follows:
- Sunday and Sunday service span will be 6:00 am to 10:50 pm.
- Weekday service span will remain the same.
What changes are taking place on Route 42?
Service to Boiling Brook Parkway and Rocking Horse Road will be discontinued. Service to and from the William F. Bolger Center/U.S. Postal Service training facility will be discontinued.
What will be the replacement service?

Ride On Route 38 on Boiling Brook Parkway, and the new Metrobus Routes M42 and M44 will stop where Boiling Brook meets Parklawn Drive

The affected trips (one AM, on PM) from the Bolger Center will continue to run, but will no longer stop at the Bolger Center.
Will the Metro Stations change?
No. Route 42 will terminate at North Bethesda Metro.
What changes are taking place on WMATA Route L8?
Beginning June 29, 2025, WMATA will discontinue Route L8.
What will be the replacement service?
- Ride On Routes 1 and 11 will continue to serve Friendship Heights Metro station, Western Ave and Connecticut Avenue south of East-West Highway.
- New Metrobus M22 will serve Connecticut Avenue between East-West Highway and University Blvd.
- The Route 41 extension will serve Connecticut Ave between University Boulevard and Aspen Hill, including Wheaton and Glenmont Metro stations.
Will Ride On still provide service on weekends for this route?
No, Ride On will no longer provide weekend service on this route. All weekend service will be handled by Metrobus M22.
