M Luis ConstructionM Luis Construction

Woman- and minority-owned, with two locations in Montgomery County, M Luis Construction is one of the region’s leading asphalt manufacturing and construction services company. The company's leaders strongly believe in supporting the communities in which they live and work and are passionate about their ability to give back in meaningful ways. This commitment is evident in their support of Warrior Canine Connection, where they have helped provide access for hundreds of veterans and their families.

Warrior Canine Connection is a nonprofit organization that helps active-duty service members and veterans reconnect with life, their families, their communities, and each other. Utilizing its unique form of animal assisted therapy, the organization enlists service members and veterans to help train purpose-bred dogs to become highly skilled assistance dogs for fellow veterans. Veterans participating in the training benefit from the animal-human connection, while also helping to provide more in-demand service dogs for other disabled veterans.

Having ample and adequate facilities to train future service dogs is critical to the organization’s mission. In 2016, Warrior Canine Connection began the process of relocating its Healing Quarters to a historic dairy farm on the grounds of Seneca Creek State Park. In order to realize its vision of expanding programs to tens of thousands of additional veterans, the nonprofit embarked on an ambitious campaign to build much-needed facilities for puppies, service dogs in training, the warriors who train them, and the clients who need to work with their service dogs in advance of placement.

In 2020, the Warrior Canine Connection facility was in need of road repair and drainage solutions so that heavy rains would no longer cut off its flagship training center from staff, clients, and volunteers. M Luis came to the rescue, donating and laying approximately 200 tons of asphalt and millings at the Healing Quarters—a project valued at nearly $20,000.

The project required coordination with engineers, county officials, and others to ensure the drive over a creek bed would be safe and sustainable during heavy rains and other inclement weather conditions. M Luis graded the roadway to direct the flow towards a new ditch and paved the roadway for a smooth ride into the Healing Quarters.

This wasn’t the first time M Luis Construction pitched in to help Warrior Canine Connection. In 2016, when the Healing Quarters was in poor shape and required considerable work, the company provided its expertise, materials, and labor to pour two building foundation slabs for a new welcome center and training center, and also constructed sidewalks, a $24,000 project.

With M Luis’s assistance, Warrior Canine Connection has been able to provide a safe, tranquil, healing environment for veterans and their families. The firm's service to Warrior Canine Connection is extraordinary and they have been an instrumental partner in helping the organization fulfill its mission.
