MCPS SSL Orientation

Organizations are invited to our monthly overview of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Student Service Learning (SSL) guidelines and Montgomery County Volunteer Center (MCVC) website tools. MCPS requires attendance after initial Volunteer Center registration and every three years thereafter for SSL recertification.

Recharge: Sustaining Your Passion While Managing Volunteers

It’s a tough assignment - managing the people who give their time for free requires a massive amount of emotional labor. When your own battery is low, it’s hard to sustain your passion for the mission and keep others engaged.

In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Identify the specific "energy drains" unique to volunteer management (e.g., emotional labor, high turnover).
  • Apply a self-assessment tool to measure their current burnout risk and resilience levels.
  • Develop three personalized "Micro-Recharge" strategies that fit into a standard workday.
  • Create a boundary-setting framework to protect personal time without compromising volunteer relationships.

These interactive sessions provide a space to:

  • Get hands-on guidance to help you make the most of your organization's profile and volunteer opportunity postings. 
  • Ask questions about volunteer recruitment, engagement, and reporting. 
  • Share feedback and connect with other volunteer managers and community partners.
