RESURFACING NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS
Street Resurfacing Methods
The Highway Maintenance Section (HMS) periodically resurfaces neighborhood streets using two methods, micro seal and chip seal.
- micro seal is generally applied on streets within neighborhoods and subdivisions.
- chip seal uses a courser material and is applied on rural or country roads. It is also used as a localized patching material on all types of roads.
Benefits of Resurfacing
- Improved traction, surface texture and appearance
- Waterproofed surface
- New wear layer to protect underlying pavement from traffic, weather and oxidation
- Extends life of dry, weathered surfaces
- Seals small cracks and levels minor imperfections
- Provides cost efficient methods for resurfacing
Prior to using either method, HMS staff will evaluate the neighborhood streets and perform any needed street repairs.
