How MCDOT reduces energy use

MCDOT is installing electric vehicle charging stations in its garages to make it easier to own and operate these energy-saving cars. These vehicles run on electric batteries and significantly reduce polluting emissions compared to conventionally fueled vehicles.

MCDOT has replaced all traffic signals and garage lighting with LED lights and is transitioning streetlights.  LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights produce light very efficiently and are more durable, versatile and long lasting than traditional compact fluorescent lamps.

The County’s four parking districts are converting to solar powered “smart” parking meters, reducing reliance on the use of fossil fuels.

\More than 75 percent of the Ride On bus fleet uses compressed natural gas, clean diesel, and hybrid electric power, reducing air emissions.
