There was a record number of entries to judge this year totaling over seventy one (71) landscaping locations - including the Sustained Maintenance category (who are previous triple winners of the Award of Excellence).  Members of the Landscape Design Council of the National Capital Area Garden Clubs spent three long hot days on the road visiting each location. Entries were judged on first impressions, design, selection, placement and condition of landscaping and mainenenace (this criteria was developed by the National Garden Clubs and has been used to evaluate landscape design across the nation).

Who judged?  Head Judge and Master Gardener Carol Carter, Co-Head Judge and Master Gardener Paula Knepper and horticultural experts and longtime members of the Council including Ellen Spencer, Bette Lewis, Dianne Gregg, Mary Ann Wren, Ellen Spencer, Mary Corley, Julie Perlman and newcomers, Carol Jarvis and Charmane Truesdell.

Carol Carter and Paula Knepper narrated the ceremony presentation and took turns announcing each winner (see below to view the full presentation). The awards of Excellence, Distinction, Merit and Honorable Mention have allowed the judges to honor many superb landscape designs, especially in the newer environmental areas. The winner list below denotes new or environmental in each category (catagories included Commercial/Retail, Public/Institutional, ityscape, Community Non-Professional, Community Professional, Youth and Sustained Mainenenace).
