How it Works

Provide a brief but detailed written request letter for electrical contractor change of business name or status. Specify in the request the prior business or status, newly requested business name or status, and license(s) number(s). With the request letter, you must include:

1.     Copies of the current, full or limited, DPS electrical business and electrical master’s licenses
2.  If requesting an electrical business license name change; an updated copy of the electrical business’ State of Maryland Business License AND an updated copy of the electrical business’ Certificate of Liability Insurance both listed the new electrical business license name.
3. If the electrical master of record reciprocated from State of Maryland D.L.L.R.; an updated copy of the Maryland Statewide D.L.L.R. license. The license must be designated as “04-Qualified Agent” and list the new Electrical Business’ they will be the agent for, renewal date, and license number.

How it Works

Upon approval by the BOEE, DPS will issue the updated electrical contractors business license the following business day. Hardcopies along with receipts will be mailed to the electrical business address on record. The applicant will also be emailed a PDF scan of the license(s) along with a new login and temporary password to DPS eServices to apply for permits if applicable.

How it Works

The application is reviewed by DPS Staff. Any incomplete or deficient letters will be returned to the applicant. Upon processing, DPS staff will generate a written notice which will be sent to the applicant designating the time and place of the exam. The notice will be mailed or handed to the applicant or authorized representative as appropriate. Applicant examination results will be mailed out by the Department within five (5) business days of their testing date.
