How it Works

Permits must be applied for electronically via Apply Online. Electronic permit applications can be made at any time. Unless exempt by State law, a non-refundable filing fee must be paid at application. Acceptable methods of payment are credit card, electronic check or via escrow. Cash is only accepted if paid in person. Please visit our eServices page for to learn about performing tasks electronically.

A low voltage electrical permit, which requires a master limited or master electrician licensed by DPS, is also required for all fire alarm permits.

How it Works

Once your information is submitted DPS personnel will begin the review process. The first stop of your project is to ensure that the filing fees are paid and that the information submitted conforms to the fire alarm plan submittal requirements with regards to file naming and distribution. When filing fees are not paid or the submittal requirements are  met the project is returned to the applicant with a “screening corrections resubmit” task which will allow the applicant to make the necessary corrections and/or pay a missing filing fee. It is important to note that, at this time, applicants cannot delete information from ePlans. To have information deleted please contact DPS personnel for assistance.

How it Works

All fire alarm system plans are reviewed electronically using DPS’ ePlans program. When plans reviewed are found complaint with current codes and standards they are forwarded to our permit technicians who verify if outstanding fees are present. Plans needing corrections are electronically marked up by the plans examiner and send back to the applicant for correction. Corrected plans are then uploaded, using the same file name and folder as the plan being replaced, and re-reviewed by the examiner.
